The Touch
Exhibited at AI Perceptions – B’AI Global Forum, University of Tokyo
Concept
The Touch is an interactive speculative fiction that asks what becomes of the human hand—and the act of making—in an age of accelerating technological mediation. Visitors step into a near-future scenario where, alongside an AI companion, they encounter relics from the late 20th century. These fragments spark a narrative about memory, materiality, and the essence of creation.
Narrative & Experience
The work draws inspiration from Karl Marx’s Theory of Alienation, particularly the notion of alienation from species-being. While technology empowers humans to transcend boundaries, it also risks detaching us from tactile processes of making that are integral to creativity and identity. Through interaction, participants reflect on this paradox—recognizing both the potentials and losses of our deepening reliance on machines.
